Graduation: The Memories!

Graduation Memories

It is spring so that means graduation time is upon us. Some of us are graduating and some of us have loved ones graduating. It is a time of parties and gifts.  One of the best places to get gifts for your grad is the Christianbook website.  There are over 20,000 gift ideas to choose from and you can find the link at the bottom of this page.  You can even personalize your gift for the graduate.  One gift which would encourage daily Bible reading and journaling is linked below.

This blog post reminds me of past graduations.  My high school graduation was in 1977, yes, I am that old!  I remember getting a big blue trunk for graduation.  I kept that trunk until a few years ago.  Unfortunately, one of my kids stood on it and it broke.  Since high school I have had three graduations.  One was from Nicolet College, one from UW-Milwaukee and the other was from Capella University.  Nicolet College has a beautiful campus just south of the town where I live.  I attended there when I realized my marriage was ending and I needed to be educated to be out on my own.

There I started my nine year journey to be educated in order to be accepted.  I really thought that if I was educated people would respect me and love me.  How wrong I was!   God always loved me with or without an education!  Do I regret having gone to school?  No!  I have so much more wisdom about life.  Do I regret what I went to school for, counseling? No, not really.  Yes, I did not use my degree professionally but I use it often to say just the right thing to people I come in contact with every day.

I also found I have respect for myself and am happy with the person who I am becoming.  Journaling every day has helped me look at myself in a deeper way.  It also helps me to see me as how God sees me-His child.  At 60 years of age I have decided not to continue to search for jobs in my field.  I am now looking forward to retiring from my current position, which is very hard on my body, and pursuing writing for income.  I am hoping to graduate to customer in about 14 months.
